"
What is the U-post support with bead used for?"
The U-post support with bead is a medium-strength support that firmly connects a wooden post to the ground. As a load-bearing Post anchor, it has a U-shape. This fork is provided with a bead that serves as a support for the beam or post. It encloses the wood, which is secured with the help ofÂ
is installed. U-post supports are used to fasten wooden beams and posts or square beams and are mainly used in terrace and garden construction.
They are particularly suitable for non-load-bearing and lightweight timber constructions such asÂ
- Wind-permeable rooms,Â
- visual protection orÂ
- Side panels up to a maximum height of 1.50 m.
However, they are rather unsuitable for load-bearing structures such as a carport or heavily covered roofs. Post anchors for setting in concrete are usually used for these. The U-post supports are suitable for straight surfaces.
Â
How to install a U-post support with bead?
U-shaped post bases are screwed onto a solid base made of stone, concrete or wood. Installation is therefore much easier and quicker than with Post anchors for setting in concrete. Before the anchor is screwed in, it must be checked that the ground or foundation is level. This is checked using a spirit level. If the ground is uneven, it may need to be levelled.
Once the ground has been prepared, first mark the drill holes. The U-post supports with beads can be used as a template for this. The holes can then be pre-drilled using a suitable masonry or wood drill bit. Ideally, stone holes should be drilled a little deeper, as the stone dust cannot be completely removed. The anchors and screws can then be inserted and the post base screwed on. Once the U-post base with bead is attached to the existing foundation, the wooden beam or post is then inserted between the 100 mm high side brackets. Screws can be inserted into the wood through the holes in the side brackets to stabilise the beam. The wood rests on the bead and is thus ventilated. This protects the wood from moisture and extends the service life of the timber construction.

What should be considered and what technical details does the U-post support with bead screw-on have?
The U-post support with bead is available in various dimensions and should match the beam thickness used with regard to the fork width. The available fork widths include:Â
- 71 mm,Â
- 81 mm,
- 91 mm,Â
- 101 mm,Â
- 121 mm andÂ
- 141 mm.Â
Hot-dip galvanising protects the post supports with bead from the effects of weather. The U-shaped Post anchor has a fork height of 100 mm, a fork depth of 60 mm and a fork thickness of 4 mm. The drill holes consist of eight holes of 11 mm and one hole of 14 mm.
As this is a U-post support, it must be screwed onto an existing foundation. The fork shoes are equipped with pre-drilled mounting holes. Various fastening elements such as screws or bolt anchors are guided through these. In some cases, chemical anchoring can also be used.
It is important that suitable anchors or screws are used for the foundation so that they are suitable for concrete, stone or wood and also offer a high load-bearing capacity.
